Samal, Bataan—Outgoing first district Board Member Rolly Tigas is seeking the mayoralty here anew as he led the local slate of the National Unity Party for the midterm elections next year.

An ally of the province’s ruling Garcia clan, Tigas is running with Felix Espino, a returning candidate for vice mayor as well.

Their councilor slate includes Glen Velasco, Lito Villanueva, Marjun Bantay, Vangie Buensuceso, Amy Dela Rosa, James Manguiat, Tito Mate, and Rhina Saldana, who filed their respective certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections office here on Monday.

Gov. Abet Garcia, the NUP national president who is bidding for another term, accompanied them.

Tigas was mayor of Samal for two terms. He said he will push for the genuine progress of Samal that was already starting to boom industrially when he left nine years ago.

He did not run for a third term as mayor in at least two occasions in the past “for the sake of local party unity,” he added.
