Los Baños—The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture or Searca has released a manual that will help farmers and investors determine profitability and guide them in evaluating costs and returns of target ventures.

The manual, titled “Financial Viability and Profitability Analysis of New Technologies and Enterprises: A Training Manual,” was published in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR).

DA-BAR Executive Director Nicomedes Eleazar said this investment guide for prospective agricultural entrepreneurs aims to help identify high-value crop ventures.

“We have lauched the publication on August 30 during the 14th Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Forum and Product Exhibition held in SM Megamall,” Eleazar said, adding that copies may be availed from the DA-BAR.

“We believe that farmers and fishers can become ‘agripreneurs’ if given the right opportunities, training and innovations,” he said.

Eleazar said the DA-BAR will continue to leads and coordinate research and development (R&D) on agriculture and fisheries in the country.

“We will continue disseminating our research results to improve agricultural and fisheries output and encourage farmers and fishers to engage in agripreneurship,” the director added.

Senator Cynthia Villar, Senate Food and Agriculture Committee Chair, has also expressed support to the DA-BAR and Searca agricultural entrepreneurs projects.

“It is important to create technologies and systems that can reach intended beneficiaries and further improve the performance of the country’s agriculture and fisheries,” Villar said.

SEARCA has been a long-time partner of the DA-BAR in research, capacity building, and knowledge management projects.

It is a regional treaty organization that promotes inclusive and sustainable agricultural and rural development through graduate education and institutional development, R&D, and knowledge management.
