Corpus replaces Aquino as Region 3 police chief

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga—Chief Supt. Amador Corpus is the next director of the Police Regional Office III here, Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has announced.

Dela Rosa made the announcement during the 116th Police Service Anniversary Celebration of PRO III here. Corpus will assume his new post next week upon the retirement of Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino on Sept. 6 upon reaching the mandatory age of 56 years old.

Aquino was appointed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte as chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, while his predecessor Isidro Lapena was appointed as Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs.

Dela Rosa and Corpus, who is now chief of the PNP Directorate for Logistics at Camp Crame, belong to Philippine Military Academy class of 1986.

During his stint as director of PRO III, Aquino said they were validating the involvement of narco-politicians in the illegal drug operation in Central Luzon, which included two congressmen, three city and two municipal mayors, and a vice governor.

Aquino refused to identify the suspect politicians, saying they are still undergoing further investigation.

However, he said he will identify the politicians to the incoming director for his guidance and information during the turnover ceremony next week.

Aquino is retiring from police service with solid accomplishments in Central Luzon, especially on a campaign against illegal drugs and criminality.

Under the project Double Barrel Reloaded, a total of 13,203 persons who were identified involved in  selling, transport and use illegal drugs were arrested covering the period of July 2016 up to August 24, 2017.

The period covered 8,656 operations that resulted in the confiscation of 26,686 grams of shabu,72,898 grams of marijuana and the seizure of 1,598 assorted firearms and explosive.

In terms of rehabilitation of the suspects, a total of 153 centers called Bahay Pagbabago were established in the region that resulted in the graduates of 17,244 surenderers while 2,244 others are still undergoing reformation.

On the other hand, the municipality of Masantol in Pampanga was declared drug free by the PDEA based on the criteria of the Dangerous Drug Board of the of the Philippines.

A total of 100 policemen were sent to Mindanao  as punishment of their involvement in the illegal drug activities while the others are undergoing  Character Aptitude Training (CAT).
