Form, function, flexibility in light

Steltz Gallery recently unveiled lighting solutions created by designers Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby (Bellhop), Formafantasma (Wirering) and Michael Anastassiades (Arrangements),  in collaboration with lights maker Flos.

Form, function, flexibility in light

The Bellhop (Seen in photo) is a cordless, spun aluminum lamp that pays homage to every hotel porter, from which it gets its name.  The bell-like shaped lap was originally conceptualized by Barber and Osgerby (the same design duo who made the 2012 London Olympic torch) to create a lamp for the newly-opened Design Museum’s Parabola restaurant.

The WireRing by Formafantasma was unveiled last year in Euroluce, during the annual Milan Design Week. Described by light artists and designers as a “tense sign of orthographic light”, it is midway between a wall lamp and floor lamp, and is reminiscent of the light ring concept in portrait photography as it frames faces, using its ring of indirect light. Cyprus-born designer Michael Anastassiades’ new creation, Arrangement (Inset),  is a flexible system of geometric light components which could be conjoined in different ways, creating seamless artistic compositions as individual chandeliers.  The Steltz gallery is at the East Wing of Edsa Shangri-La Plaza Mall.
