‘Tidy space, tidy mind’

Whether you are working from home a couple days a week, run your business, study, or just need a place to schedule your day and pay the bills—you want a comfortable, stylish and productive work space. Simply because in a well-designed and organized home office, you would likely spend more time, you would fulfill more tasks, and still be happy, not exhausted, at the end of the day.

Compact furniture and careful planning will help you incorporate a fully functioning workspace into the smallest of rooms, the corner of a living room or even a little nook beside the kitchen.

Here are some designing ideas to create a home office.

The best place

One would recommend to designate a room, if it is possible, no matter how you can withstand distractions, a separate room is the best. If it is not possible, still do not sacrifice space trying to squeeze your working space between kitchen and dining room. You’ll likely spend a lot of time in your home office so it should be comfortable.

Functional first, then beautiful

Your desk and shelves should be functional first, and then beautiful. Think about your work and what you need in your office—how much storage, how big the table, what is the technology you use. If you are just starting your business and have no idea what to expect—buy a simple table—just legs with the working surface and then you could add storage cabinets, drawer units and shelves by the time when you need it.

Invest in your chair

It should be The Chair. It is obvious —a beautiful, ergonomically-correct, comfortable seat is worth every dime. And your back will thank you.

Consider lighting

Make sure your office has plenty of light. A good working lamp with adjustable head is what you need.

Make yourself a beautiful view when you glance up from the computer. The best is to sit in front of the window with natural light, but if it is not possible, hang a pretty picture above the table, it could be a family portrait, inspirational quote or something that would give you positive vibes.

Create construction

Your technology can also be stylish. But do not forget to hide unsightly cords. Make sure your equipment is close to power outlets and easy to access.

Keep it clean and organized

Do not forget to eliminate clutter— in a well-designed home office, where everything has its place and function, you should not have a problem of piling stuff.

Storage should be the top priority in all home office designs. With so many papers, books and supplies to store, be sure to accommodate it all with shelves, drawers and cabinets. There’s nothing more distracting than piles of paper, which is no good in an environment where you want to be productive.

Color schemes

What will work for one person won’t necessarily work for another, but what you are aiming for is a calm, organized, productive and inspiring environment. For you, that might mean choosing peaceful colors, such as neutrals, blues or greens, or you might find that bright pops of hot pink or red fire up your imagination. Choose something that will inspire you rather than distract you.

Office decor ideas

To give your work area a personalized touch, bring in framed family photographs and travel souvenirs you’ve picked up along the way. For those must-have accessories, like pencil cups, paper trays and magazine holders, try using bright, vibrant patterns to add a pop of color or even novelty pieces that will make you smile every time you look at them.

Always think in terms of inspiration; your work area should be functional but also reflective of the things that motivate you.
