State-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority said it moved the bid submission for the 25-year operation and maintenance contract of Clark International Airport in Pampanga province to the middle of October from the original schedule of July 20.

“The bidders asked an extension. I think we’re extending to around mid-October,”  BCDA president and chief executive Vivencio Dizon said.

BCDA earlier said Megawide-GMR Consortium, Metro Pacific Investment Corp., Filinvest Development Corp., San Miguel Holdings Corp., Prime Assets Venture, Central Luzon Infrastructure Consultancy Inc. Consortium, GVK Airport Developers Ltd., AirAsia and Groupe ADP purchased bid documents for the 25-year contract to operate and maintain the airport.

Megawide-GMR earlier won the bidding for the construction of a new passenger terminal in Clark Airport, when it submitted the lowest financial proposal of P9.36 billion on Dec. 14 last year.

Clark International Airport’s new terminal building is envisioned to accommodate an additional 8 million passengers per annum. The expansion project also involves the construction and installation of all required associated facilities”•both landside and airside to support operations of the new terminal.

The project is expected to ease the strain on the congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport and help create jobs and increase development in Central Luzon, a growing economic center.

The new passenger terminal building in Clark airport is expected to open by July 2020.

The airport currently has an annual capacity of four million passengers. Airlines operating in Clark include Qatar Airways, Cebu Pacific, Tigerair, Jin Air, Asiana Airlines, Dragon Air, AirAsia Berhad, Philippine Airlines and Emirates Airlines.

These airlines mount flights to Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Macau, Pudong, Incheon, Doha, Dubai, Davao, Cebu, and Kalibo.

Megawide-GMR also won a 25-year concession agreement in December 2013 that involved the renovation of Terminal 1 of Mactan Cebu airport and the design, financing, construction, and operation of a second terminal. It submitted the highest bid of P14.4 billion.
