NREB seeks longer deadline for renewables

The National Renewable Energy Board expressed hope that the Energy Department will extend the deadline and expand the allocation target for biomass and run-of-river power projects to avail of the feed-in tariff.

NREB chairperson Monalisa Dimalanta said the agency would file a request with Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi for the extension and expansion of the allocation target.

NREB is the implementing agency of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 which grants feed-in tariff incentives to renewable energy developers. The FIT guarantees eligible renewable energy plants an entitlement to the FIT for a period of 20 years.

“For NREB, we will request. We’ll formalize our request to the secretary to accommodate all the capacity that will be tested for FiT eligibility. For run-of-river, there’s no excess capacity. It will be filled up but they won’t be able to meet it within the year. It’s just that they can’t do the testing this year. For biomass, they will meet it within the year but its excess capacity,” Dimalanta said.
