Indigenous group blocks Pulangi hydro

Proponents of the South Pulangi Hydroelectric power project sought the assistance of the Anti-Red Tape Authority to help resolve the year-long negotiations with the indigenous people residing in the ancestral lands of Damulog and adjoining areas in Bukidnon.

Sen. Miguel Zubiri said indigenous people residing within the proposed site were lukewarm to the set of compensation offered to the indigenous group.

“They are actually asking for demands that are really hard for the proponent to fulfill. This group demanded for 13,000 heads of cows, 13,000 horses, 13,000 goats and 13,000 pigs. The entire country does not even have 13,000 horses to start with, and the cows they are asking may amount to the entire cow industry here. All these demands may cost more than P250 million,” he said Tuesday at the sidelines of the first year anniversary of  the Ease of Doing Business law held at the Philippine International Convention Center.

He added that the indigenous group may have been infiltrated by the ultra-left faction in coming up with a preposterous list of demands.
