SN Aboitiz Power Corp., a joint venture of  Aboitiz Power Corp. and SN Power of Norway, is pilot testing the first floating solar power project at THE Magat Dam in Isabela, an executive said Wednesday night.

“We’re testing. They’re advanced with testing. I just don’t know the capacity. They’re on testing capacity. It’s not significant, but we’re testing floating solar in Magat,” Aboitiz Power chief operating officer Emmanuel Rubio said.

SN Aboitiz president and chief executive Joseph Yu said the testing period would determine the viability of the floating solar project. “If it works, then it’s a viable,” Yu said.

He said the pilot project would have an initial capacity of 200 kilowatts. “What we’d like to do is make sure it works. Ideally if there is a massive inflow of water, [we] test it mechanically [to check] how much it can take.  [We want to] make sure by the time we scale it up and build many of these, it can survive many typhoons,” Yu said.
