Aboitiz Power Corp. signed an agreement with 10 municipalities of Nueva Ecija province to supply 33 megawatts of capacity, accounting for 80 percent of the peak demand of the electric cooperative serving the areas.
Aboitiz Power will supply power to Nueva Ecija Electric Cooperative II-Area 1, which distributes electricity to the towns of Talavera, Lupao, Carranglan, Aliaga, Quezon, Licab, Sto. Domingo, Muñoz, Guimba, and Talugtug.
AboitizPower Corporate Business Group executive vice president and chief operating officer Luis Miguel Aboitiz said the company had been striving to address the increasing demand of customers for power.
“The Cleanergy brand is our solution to the growing demand for renewable energy in the country,” Aboitiz said.
He said Aboitiz Power’s wide portfolio of renewable energy assets ensured customers of reliable and reasonably priced electricity.
Aboitiz Power also has a portfolio of coal-fired or baseload power plants, including the recently completed Pagbilao 3 plant in Quezon.
Neeco II-Area 1 board president Reynaldo Villanueva said the decision to go renewable was a key milestone for the cooperative, which was established in 1975 and had since secured its energy requirements from non-renewable sources.
“We consider our Cleanergy partnership with Aboitiz Power as a major accomplishment because we have been using non-renewable energy since we started operations forty years ago,” the official said.
“But we wanted to explore other energy options to maximize benefit to our customers, and at the same time, minimize impact on the environment. So we looked at several power companies and in terms of track record, capacity, and customer service, Aboitiz Power emerged as our power partner of choice,” Villanueva said.
Neeco II-Area 1 is the third electric cooperative in Luzon to tap Aboitiz Power for its power needs.
Aboitiz Power has been providing clean and renewable energy for 40 years now from its portfolio of hydro, geothermal, solar and coal-fired power plants, which are strategically located across the Philippines.
Aboitiz Power and its partners produce over 1,200 MW of clean and renewable energy from 30 power plants, while its other assets are composed of coal plants that can serve the baseload needs of customers.
