DICT to accredit  two tower builders

The Department of Information and Communications Technology said it expects to accredit a tower company by the first quarter of 2019 to build more cellular base stations nationwide.

“We are helpful that the accreditation will be achieved by the first quarter of next year, followed by a six-month buildup and consultative meetings with users regarding their requirements,” the agency said.

It said there would be no limitation in the ownership structure and foreigners can own up to 100 percent of the tower company.

The agency said the effectivity and start of rollout of tower company was projected by August or September 2019, just about the same time the Facebook fiber optic would be activated providing free two terabyte-bandwidth.

“The maximum rollout of one tower company is 25,000 for a 7-year period, so two tower companies maybe chosen for a total of 50,000,” the agency said.

Each tower company is projected to invest $2 billion.
