NTC starts probe on Globe, partner

The National Telecommunications Commission summoned Globe Telecom Inc. and GotDeals Mobile Inc., a value-added service provider, to appear on March 8 before the regulatory body in connection with its investigation for possible violation of a memorandum circular governing public telecommunications entities and VAS.

In the summons, issued on February 28, 2018, the NTC also ordered Globe to suspend its content provider agreement with GotDeals pending investigation triggered by a complaint on disappearing mobile phone loads filed with the commission.

NTC officer-in-charge of the NTC legal branch Ella Blanca Lopez said Globe and GotDeals were required to respond within five working days to the complaint filed by Feanne Mauricio, who has brought to the attention of the regulatory body the questionable deduction from her pre-paid load credit.

The NTC since February has been investigating consumer complaints involving phone credits being eaten up by VAS providers, which offer services outside the standard calls and SMS such as infotext, ringtones, wallpaper, among others, without notifying cellphone users.
