Smart Communications Inc. beat rival Globe Telecom in terms of mobile download speed in the latest mobile network benchmarking of the National Telecommunications Commission.

The January benchmarking results by NTC showed that the  average application throughput of Smart was 11.97 megabits per second, faster than Globe’s 10.64 Mbps.

Application throughout is the measurement of how many units of information a system can process in a given amount of time based on the application running. In this case, a PTP server is being accessed and a certain volume of data is being downloaded.

NTC deputy commissioner Edgardo Cabarios said the download speed of Smart was faster than Globe at the time of the measurement done by the agency.

He said that the NTC’s result was consistent with the speed test result of OpenSignal in the fourth quarter of 2017. The openSignal survey showed that Smart’s LTE download speed across the Philippines was at 12.7 Mbps, ahead of its rival Globe’s 7.5 Mbps. Darwin G. Amojelar
