Hybrid rice seed producer SL Agritech Corp. signed an agreement with EnP Solutions Ltd., a Bangladesh company, to produce the SL-18H variety of hybrid rice.

“We are doing seed production. Initially, they will be importing seeds from us since we have not yet started seed production. This is going to be two-pronged. They will import SL-18 to Bangladesh and find suitable place for us to produce the F1 seeds for SL-18,” said SLAC president Henry Lim.

SL-18H is a new hybrid rice variety that potentially produces 250 to 300 cavans per hectare, yielding a farmers’ net income of P100,000 to P200,000 per hectare.

Lim said SLAC under the agreement will sell 20 to 50 tons of seeds annually.

He said the company was looking at an initial area of 5 to 15 hectares.

“Seed production areas should be contiguous. Still trying to scout a bigger area. In two to three years time, we will be increasing the area. We will go to 500 to 800 hectares,” said Lim.
