Cavitex agrees to complete C5 link project by the end of ‘21

Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. said Tuesday it will accelerate the construction of the Cavitex C5 Southlink Project to meet the target completion date set by the government.

“If DPWH [Department of Public Works and Highways] and our partner from the government can actually deliver on the right-of-way, the end 2021 [completion date] is doable. But it’s really a major requirement that we get the right of way. Otherwise, it is really a challenge,” CIC president Roberto Bontia told reporters at the sidelines of the opening of the first section of the Cavitex C5 Southlink.

The  P1.6-billion first phase of the Cavitex C5 Southlink is a 2.2-kilometer flyover crossing South Luzon Expressway and traversing Taguig and Pasay City.

The P1.5-billion Segment 3A2 from Merville to RSG Subdivision is expected to start construction in November and to be completed by April 2021.

The construction of the P3.2-billion Segment 3B of the Cavitex C5 from RSG Airport View Subdivision to Sucat interchange was originally expected to start in April 2020 and was expected to be completed by March 2022.

The P6.2 billion Segment 2 of the Cavitex C5 was supposed to start construction by November this year for completion by April 2022.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, however, said the 2021 target for the completion of the Cavitex C5 would be “doable” as the agency was focusing on the right of way acquisition for the project.

“I’m looking forward to the full opening by 2021,” he said.

The first section of the C5 Southlink is now accessible to vehicles plying between Fort Bonifacio, C.P. Garcia (C5), Taguig City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City and Pasay City.

The alignment features a bridge that crosses Metro Manila Skyway (at-grade) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). The C5 Link Flyover is expected to reduce vehicular traffic at Sales Interchange near Villamor Airbase.

The flyover is also expected to decongest SLEx East, West Service Road and Edsa. Darwin G. Amojelar

“We are supportive of road engineering solutions for everyday problems. This is a vital project that will cut travel time in half from the usual 1.5 hours spent to cross from Villamor Airbase, Pasay area to Taguig City,” Villar said.

“With three lanes in each direction of this flyover, the passage of the anticipated 8,000 vehicles will be eased when they use the flyover,” he said.
