SMC set to advance TPLEx land payment

San Miguel Corp., through unit Private Infra Development Corp., will advance the payment for the unpaid portion of the properties acquired by the government in connection with the construction of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway.

“Our wish is for the situation to be remedied as soon as possible. We will advance the payment for the government. We understand the plight of the landowners, and also recognize the position of the government,” said San Miguel president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang.

“But we would like to assure them that we are ready to resolve this issue and expedite payment,” he added.

Landowners earlier complained that the government had not fully paid them for their properties. The government said a large part of the problem stemmed from the incomplete documents submitted by claimants, resulting in delays in the review and payment process.

Ang said San Miguel was coordinating with the government, through the Department of Public Works and Highways, to quickly resolve all issues and compensate the landowners.
