Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. on Tuesday said it is optimistic about the prospects of the water business in the country with plans to beef up portfolio in the next few years.

Aboitiz InfraCapital Water Business head and Apo Agua president Roman Azanza III  said the company would expand its water portfolio in the next few years and continue to provide innovative infrastructure solutions to help sustain the country’s economic growth.

Aboitiz InfraCapital’s Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc. is envisioned to provide over 300 million liters of water daily to over a million Davao residents.

“Our Apo Agua project is unique in the Philippines. It’s basically the conjunction of water and power. It’s called the water-energy nexus. So, we’re actually using the water we tapped from the Tamugan river to power a 2-megawatt hydroelectric plant which is sufficient to supply all the power needs of our water treatment plant,” Azanza said.

Also included in the company’s water portfolio is Lima Water Corp., which provides end-to-end bulk water service from production to wastewater treatment. It supplies industrial and potable water with a 8,700 cu.m. supply capacity to 600 hectares of industrial land.

“We have a minority investment with the Balibago Waterworks of [Pampanga]. They’re actually one of the top five water players in the country,” Azanza noted, adding the company serves 150,000 households in 50 water distribution franchises in the Philippines.

Aboitiz InfraCapital has submitted unsolicited offers to the government to upgrade, operate and maintain the Bohol-Panglao International Airport and Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental province.

The company has tapped design and engineering firm Arup as consultant for the technical studies and master plan of the Laguindingan proposal.

AIC is also a member of the NAIA Consortium that received an original proponent status from the Manila International Airport Authority on September 10, 2018 to rehabilitate, operate, and expand the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
