Hyundai’s car sales fell 8.7% in August

Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, said vehicle sales dipped 8.7 percent in August to 2,987 units from 3,273 units it delivered in the same month last year.

Hari president and chief executive Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said the eight-month sales also declined 8.3 percent to 22,223 units from 24,233 units a year ago, as the company continued to surmount challenges amid the difficulties surrounding the automotive sector.

“Even with the conservative economic outlook, Hyundai has proven itself to endure the odds. Backed by a strong community of Hyundai users in the country, we have proven time and again that our products and services remain relevant in the automotive industry,” she said.

The company expects its new model”•Hyundai Kona”•to renew consumers optimism in purchasing new and better subcompact SUV.

The passenger car segment continued to be the growth driver of the brand, accounting for two-thirds of total vehicle sales, or 13,935 units in the first eight months. Accent remained a topseller among the passenger cars in the industry.
