THE manufacturing sector recovered in September, registering growths both in volume and value compared with the decreases year-on-year, the Philippine Statistics Authority said Tuesday.

The results showed the indices were on positive territory for nine consecutive months.

Data showed the Volume of Production Index registered a positive growth rate of 4.0 percent in September compared with the 5.7-percent decline on year.

The increase was due to the improvement in 11 major industries, with six  industry groups registering two-digit increases in VoPI as follows: textiles (44.7 percent), petroleum products(26.7percent), machinery except electrical (20.1 percent), miscellaneous manufactures (16.5 percent), transport equipment (16.2 percent) and non-metallic mineral products (13.3 percent).

The Value of Production Index for manufacturing rose 3.7 percent in September compared with the 6.2-percent decline in the same month of the previous year, based from the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries.
