Agoo receives library materials from water company

LikasDiwa Foundation Inc., the corporate social responsibility arm of Metro Agoo Water Inc., donated 1,383 books to three public schools in Agoo, La Union in June.

The donation is a part of the foundation’s Library Enhancement and Appreciation Development Program that supports the Department of Education’s “Adopt-a-School” program.

The project aims to enhance and upgrade library materials of the schools for general reference and dated books for K11 and K12.

Marisol Ybañez, managing director of LikasDiwa, led the turnover of books which was attended by the local government officials of La Union including  Second District Rep. Sandra Eriguel, Agoo mayor Stefanie Eriguel and members of Agoo Sangguniang Bayan.

Principals, head teachers and students of Don Eufemio Eriguel Memorial National High School, Agoo West and Agoo East Central Elementary school also witnessed the turnover of the books at the covered court in Barangay Sta. Barbara.

Rep. Eriguel emphasized the value of partnership in the development efforts in the Second District of La Union.  She talked about the roles of the private sector, the NGOs and how there should be cooperation and collaboration for the betterment of the communities and the residents of Agoo.

She also expressed her appreciation for the efforts of LikasDiwa and MAWI to help in community development and provide modern books for the education of the students.

Mayor Eriguel, on her part, encouraged students to become more diligent.  “Study hard.  My dad, ex-Congressman Franny, when he was alive, emphasized the value of education and proper training,” she said.

Alex Manto, general manager of MAWI, said the company and LikasDiwa Foundation would continue to be active in Agoo’s community programs such as tree planting and other environmental projects.

Agoo has been the base of operations of MAWI, a unit of Jolliville Holdings Corp. led by businessman Jolly Ting, since 2016.  The first-class municipality in the Second District of La Union is a recipient of various local and international awards.

Agoo was recently declared as the country’s top model municipality during the Philippine Model Cities Forum and Awards.

The municipality also received several awards of excellence in the area of literacy from the Department of Education and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization because of its innovative and high-quality approach to reduce illiteracy.
