About 14,000 delegates are expected to attend the 40th Asia Pacific Dental Congress and the Philippine Dental Association’s 109th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting on May 7 to 11 at SMX Convention Center in Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

The event, which will feature top-notch and seasoned international and local lecturers, is expected to draw local and foreign dental practitioners, dental hygienists, dental technologists, deans and members of the academe.

Dr. Fernando Fernandez, general chairman of the 40th APDC, said the congress’ theme is ‘Intensifying Professionalism in Synergy with Dental Science & Technology’.

“Ethics and professionalism play very important roles in the fast-changing world of dental technology and we would like to integrate these in the various lectures and researches of our speakers from various fields of dental practice to enable us to become better clinicians towards an improved dental practice,” Fernandez said.

PDA president-elect and  109th PDA Annual Convention & Scientific Meeting general chairman Dr. Arleen Reyes said this year’s PDA convention theme is ‘Driven for Excellence’ which she said “appropriately describes how we as dental professionals, continually strive for excellence in whatever specialty we may be into as we acquire new learnings from renowned local and foreign speakers from every specialty field who will bring in their expertise through noteworthy lectures that are relevant and timely to our dental practice.”

The heart of the convention—the five-day scientific sessions organized by the specialty affiliates of the PDA–will feature over 100 topics.  Other highlights of the convention are the opening ceremonies, welcome reception, PDA President’s Night, APDC delegates’ meeting, APDC commission meeting, APDC workshop, APDC council meeting,  APDC gala night and e-posters presentation.

The Trade Exhibits will have more than 500 exhibitors showcasing the latest in the science and technology of dentistry and addressing the dental professionals’ requirements.

As a prelude to the convention, there will be a pre-convention seminar on May 6 featuring two international experts—Dr. Joseph Choukroun who will tackle ‘Platelet Rich Fibrin: Improvements in soft and hard tissue surgeries (biological and pharmacological factors in implantology)’ and Prof. Juan Yepes who will tackle ‘Clinical Applications of Radiation Safety (including CBCT)’ and ‘Management of Orofacial Pain & Temporomandibular Joint Disorders’ under the Primo Gonzales Memorial Lecture.
