INFLATION remained manageable despite the acceleration of consumer prices in the first quarter of 2017 compared to a quarter ago, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said Friday.
The regulator’s inflation report covering the period January to March 2017 showed the average headline inflation rose to 3.2 percent in the first quarter from the quarter-ago level of 2.5 percent.
“Nevertheless, inflation remained within the national government’s target range of 2 to 4 percent for the year,” Bangko Sentral said.
“The rise in average headline inflation during the quarter could be attributed to some tightness in domestic food supply and upward adjustment in petroleum prices and electricity rates,” it said.
