MACTAN, Cebu—Megawide-GMR Consortium said on Friday it expects to complete the new international passenger terminal here by June 2018.

“We expect no delay in completion of the project. We are confident that we will open the terminal by June 2018,” Andrew Acquaah-Harrison, chief executive advisor of GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp., told reporters.

GMR-Megawide is led by India’s GMR Infrastructure Ltd. and Megawide Construction Corp..

The Mactan Cebu International Airport Project includes the construction of a new passenger terminal and renovation of the existing one, as well as the provision of new commercial facilities. This would increase passenger capacity to 12.5 million a year.

The project will be developed under a 25-year concession agreement for the operation of both terminals and commercial outlets.

GMCAC president Louis Ferrer  said once Terminal 2 is open, the company will be able to increase the designed passenger capacity from the 4.5 million to 12.5 million.

The Mactan-Cebu airport expects to handle 8.9 million passengers this year.

“The added capacity will give us even more opportunities to implement innovations in service and operation,” Ferrer said.

Improvements are currently being applied by GMCAC in Terminal 1, including the launch of new passenger processing technologies such as the country’s first Veripax Passenger Reconciliation System that will streamline the airport’s security check process.

MCIA’s total project cost is P33 billion, inclusive of the bid premium paid up front by the consortium.
