Port operator Asian Terminal Inc. said Monday the government has extended its contract for another 10 years to operate Batangas Port, after its existing contract expired this month.

ATI said in a disclosure to the stock exchange unit ATI Batangas Inc. and Philippine Ports Authority signed the contract for the management, operation, maintenance and development of phase 1 of Port of Batangas.

The contract covers Oct. 1 this year to Sept. 30, 2025

Under the contract, ATIB provides arrastre, stevedoring, storage and related cargo handling services.

ATIB was also given the right to manage and operate the fastcraft passenger terminal and to provide specific services and amenities to all passengers, both for fastcraft and Ro-Ro vessels.

Batangas Port handles over three million outbound passengers and facilitates the transit of over 200,000 vehicles via high-speed inter-island ferries and roll-on/roll-off vessels plying the Luzon-Visayas inter-island routes, annually.

The port also serves as a strategic staging ground for domestic containerized trade between Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ATI  posted a net income of P933 million in the first half of the year, representing an 80.3-percent rise from the same period last year, driven by increased port activities in Manila South Harbor and Batangas Port, its modern port gateway for Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon).

ATI said its port revenues from January to June rose 26.6 percent to P3.9 billion from a year ago.

The listed port operator attributed this primarily to higher container volumes in both Manila and Batangas and the growth of roll-on/roll-off cargoes at Batangas Port.

ATI earlier said Batangas Container Terminal sustained its growth momentum into the second quarter where container throughput further accelerated by as much as 254 percent, from a 194- percent volume upsurge during the first quarter.

First half volumes already surpassed the 2013 full-year figures.
